Details
The name “Casa Kestos” marries the language of modern Mexico with the timeless past of an enchanted region. Before the Spanish arrived, the native people called the seasonal river marking the southern bounds of the estate “Kestos.” Even today the Huichol, who come from their mountain villages to sell their famous yarn paintings in Sayulita‘s village plaza, keep the language and lifestyle of their ancestors alive.
Setting
Like the gem in a bracelet along the northern arm of Sayulita Bay, the Casa Kestos estate provides a perfect mix of privacy and accessibility to Sayulita. After a hard day relaxing, the most difficult decision you may face is whether to sample one of Sayulita’s many restaurants or buy fresh fish for the casa’s grill, filleted by the same hands that caught them in the deep waters beyond the punta.
An easy 20 minute walk along the shore will bring you to the center of town and its famous central beach, where locals and visitors daily mix in a tableau of sunshine, relaxation, and a pace of life far removed from the hustle of nearby Puerto Vallarta. But if your need to get to town is because you’ve discovered there are no more limes for margaritas, the highway will get you there in five minutes.
The Grounds
Three separate dwelling sit on an outcropping of rocks that emerges from the beach like the mirage of a ship. In front, paths lead to the sand and surf. Behind, a verdant green space of wild coconuts, bannanas, and lush tropical vegetation buffers the houses from the highway. Parrots and other colorful birds flit through the trees, pelicans and frigate birds swoop over the sea. A harmless iguana or two may arrive to nibble on the petunias, while geckos defy gravity and run up vertical walls in a game of hide and seek with you.

The Main Casa
A landmark of beach-living style, the main casa was first built in the late 1960′s. Additions and updates have kept the original architect’s intent of blurring the boundaries between indoor living and outdoor living. With the custom iron gates open, the large dining and living room extends seamlessly to the expansive patio and its saltwater pool. A spacious, fully-equipped kitchen features everything from a commercial gas stove to a traditional wooden tortilla press. Drinking water is supplied. On the patio, a wood or charcoal-fired grill offers another cooking option.
The master bedroom features a private changing room and master bath with both a shower and a jacuzzi tub. Between the bedroom’s king-sized bed and the main patio shutters can protect your modesty or allow the glow of the setting sun to set the room ablaze. Not to be outdone, the second bedroom also has a king-sized bed and its own bath. A cozy patio provides a lovely hideaway out of site of the main public spaces.

Seductive with a king-size bed, yet practical with a queen pullout sofa, the bungalow is the perfect setting to create lasting memories for everyone from honeymooners to families with small children. Part of the original estate, the casita studio stands over the courtyard, with a kitchenette, bath, and queen-sized bed.
